Tractor of the year 2021 announced

The Tractor of The Year competition was founded in 23 years ago in 1998 and has since judged some of the best tractors available on the market. This year a host of new players within the segment as well as new categories which were introduced last year. 2020 saw the Fendt 942 Vario crowned as the overall winner, this year the competition was even tougher and the results more surprising.

As mentioned, the latest structure of the Tractor of The Year Competition consists of various categories to accommodate the wide variety of tractors competing in the market. What are the categories?

There are several categories consisting of the Tractor of the Year, Best Utility and Best of Specialised being the main ones. A new category, Sustainable Tractor of the Year, was also introduced last year to accommodate the rise of innovate solutions within the segment which bolster sustainability.

A closer look at the categories

Tractor of the Year:

This category is for the overall winner of the competition. It judges various aspects of the vehicle. Voting Parameters include: Engine, Transmission, Electronics (all kinds of electronics for the tractor management and standard equipment), Hydraulics, Cab comfort, Innovative Technical Features (referred to innovative or exclusive technical contents), Options and exterior Design.

Best Utility:

This category applies to multi-purpose and utility tractors above 70 Hp with a maximum of 4 cylinders, and maximum operating weight of 8900 kg. Parameters: Engine, Transmission, Hydraulics, Comfort, Innovative Technical Features, Options, Design, Versatility.

Best of Specialised:

This category is for highly specialised tractors that have been designed and engineered for a specific purpose. They are mostly used for operation in orchards, vineyards, hill and mountain conditions. Voting Parameters: Engine, Transmission, Comfort, Agility, Design.

Sustainable

Tractor of the Year is a new category which includes the concept of sustainability which brings several aspects such as comfort, safety, efficiency and connectivity into the mix. In general terms, it's how new and future technologies will help farmers in their daily farming activities.

These technologies include Intelligence of Things, Internet of Things, and Big data analysis, together with new types of engines such as electric, hybrid, and gas engines, how the new technologies will make future tractors less polluting, more comfortable, more safe and more efficient.

Sustainable TOTY is not an award to the most “green tractor”, but indeed an award to innovative solution under the sustainability point of view. Tractors admitted to the category:

  • A selection of working prototypes scanned by the jury.
  • Shortlisted tractors running for the three main categories

The winners of TOTY 2021

After a long process of judging the winners for the Tractor of the Year competition were on December 18. Below are the winners of each category with a description of why the judges chose each tractor.

Tractor of the Year: Massey Ferguson 8S.265

After a long and depth analysis of all the technical. Parameters, the jury has elected Massey Ferguson 8S.265 as Tractor of the Year 2021. This is a full new tractor, new style, new and innovative transmission, new cooling system, new hydraulic system, new and silent cab. Last but not least a full new package of technology.

Best Utility: Valtra G 135 Versu

After a long and depth analysis of all the technical. The jury had to evaluate the full package of technical. Parameters, considering also that utility tractors must be easy to manoeuvre and versatile. Based on these elements and thanks to attention to all the details, to the versatility, the technology offered on board, the very efficient hydraulic assistant and many other features. Valtra G 135 Versu has been elected Best Utility 2021.

Best of Specialized: Fendt 211 V Vario

The jury has elected Fendt V Vario 211 Best of Specialized 2021. With a full new cab, has improved the working environment for the driver. The Dynamic Performance extends power range, the extra power is controlled and released automatically according to the working needs. High quality reliable tractor with a very efficient transmission

Sustainable TOTY: Claas Axion 960 Cemos

The winner of Sustianble TOTY has been chosen among all the finalists tractors of all the Toty’s categories. With Claas 960 Axion, thanks to Cemos system, a big step towards a more sustainable farming has been done. All the technology available on this tractor is easy to use as never before. The optimization of all the technology all the electronics, last but not least the optimization of tires pressure,  allows to this tractor a remarkable fuel saving and a much more efficient performance on field and in any working condition.
