Taking a closer look at the Mercedes-Benz Actros
With the Truck Test for 2022 now done, we have decided to look at each participant individually. This will give you a better understanding of what each truck has on offer and how it compares to the others that took part in the test. This article will focus on the Mercedes-Benz Actros 2652LS/33 RE which impressed the judges at this year's Truck Test.
The Mercedes-Benz Actros
The latest Mercedes-Benz Actros has been designed to meet the continually growing demands of the long-distance, heavy-duty distribution transport industry. It is now more effective than ever thanks to enhanced efficiency and improved comfort. All while maintaining exemplary reliability.
More efficient
It is common knowledge that more efficient trucks reduce overall running costs and thus improve profitability. The Actros has been designed to be as efficient as possible while maintaining its renowned performance ability. One of the ways in which the Actros improves on efficiency can be found in its design. The new truck is now more aerodynamic than ever before. The new MirrorCam1 cuts fuel consumption by up to 1.5% by reducing overall drag.
Further fuel saving features include the application of coordinated drivetrain configurations with 12-speed automated gearshift and optimised final-drive ratios as well as fuel-saving drive programs.
Power house
Powering the latest Actros is the brand's economical Euro V engine. It is available in two displacement classes from 12.9-litres to 15.6-liters and a total of 3 power output ratings between 330kW to an impressive 460kW with 3000Nm of torque.
Fuel-saving drive programs, an optimised rear axle ratio and the enhanced Predictive Powertrain Control system on the Actros also contribute to the low fuel consumption. Thanks to the inclusion of a cooled exhaust-gas recirculation system, less nitrogen oxide and fewer particles are produced during combustion which ensures less of an impact on the environment.
Three key reliability elements
Reliability results from robust design and production at Mercedes-Benz with an emphasis on durability. Key focus has been placed on the drivertrian, engine and the frame and chassis. All components of the drivetrain are perfectly matched and produced exclusively at Mercedes-Benz.
All engines offer a particularly robust, durable design, a high degree of reliability and an extended service life. Road and construction-site use impose different requirements on the frame, chassis, suspension and brakes. Accordingly, the Actros is equipped with the exact components required for the job in hand.
Furthermore, long maintenance intervals and service-oriented design ensures lower repair and maintenance costs.
Comfort increased
Being a long distance transporter the new Actros has an interior to match not only its Mercedes-Benz status but also to ensure that drivers are kept comfortable on those long trips. The interior of this truck meets the highest standards in terms of driving and living comfort as well as in ergonomics. The high-quality, attractive interior design features a distinct separation of workplace and living area. Anyone who spends a lot of time on the road needs space of their own and the Actros employs a raft of cleverly placed storage compartments. These reduce cabin clutter and keep items safe.
