Hino truck clocks over 1 million kilometres

With South African businesses experiencing the negative impact of current global conditions the demand for reliable and cost efficient vehicles is at its highest. Hino offers that as was a large dealer network, but don’t take our word for it.

Japanese truck maker Hino was established in 1910, in 1982 the company joined motor giant Toyota. Today the Hino brand is one of the strongest in the world. Here in South Africa the brand is ever growing due to value added benefits offered to customers as well as reliable products. How reliable you might ask?

In September of this year a Hino 700 2845 operated by Heidedal Boerdery/Piekenierskloof Vrugte, situated on the Piekenierskloof Platea, near Citrusdal in the Western Cape clocked over one million kilometres. The Hino, which was bought new at Citrusdal Hino in March 2009 travelled from the farm to Cape Town harbour pulling a 30-ton tri-axle trailer full of export quality produce.

The important fact about this achievement is that it was achieved with only regular servicing and the replacement of items such as batteries, compressed air pipes, brake linings and the like. No major work was required on the engine, gearbox, propellor shaft or rear axles during this period.

This was the first Hino bought by this farming enterprise with its major attributes being reliability of the truck and excellent service from Citrusdal Hino, according to the owner.

Hino in South Africa

While engineered in Japan, there’s no doubt that Hino has been tried and tested to handle the unique challenges and demands of Africa. It has proven its outstanding strength and uncompromising performance over and over again by winning the Dakar Rally in the Under 10 litre category an incredible 12 times. Beyond the intense world of rally competitions, Hino has been the market leader in the MCV segment for the last 27 years according to NAAMSA in the MCV segment excluding panel vans.

In 2012 Hino achieved an incredible milestone of 40 years in South Africa. In that time the company has managed to establish an extensive dealer network of more than 50 strong in Southern Africa.

Winning awards

Hino South Africa once again topped the ranking list in the overall Datatrack Comparative Customer Experience Survey at the end of the first quarter of 2020.  Hino had a first quarter combined score of 98.53 for Sales, Service and Parts, which was 0.66 points ahead of the runner-up.

This was the seventh consecutive quarter in which Hino had placed top in the important Parts category, scoring full points (5) in six of the eight segments researched in this segment. These included the supplier having good replacement parts of high quality with parts people in the dealership who communicate well and with whom the truck operator has a good business relationship. The other questions where Hino rated top was in terms of adding value to a customer’s business and that the customer will use the same Hino parts supplier in future.

“We are very pleased that we have regained top position in this important indicator of customer service, and I am very proud of the way our dealer network took up the challenge of getting back to No. 1 position after the reverse at the end of last year,” commented Pieter Klerck, who is head of operations at Hino South Africa.
