In a resounding victory, the CLAAS XERION 12.650 TERRA TRAC has been crowned the Tractor of the Year 2024, triumphing over three other contenders. The prestigious award recognizes the tractor's outstanding pulling efficiency, comfort, connectivity, and sustainability features, marking it as a standout innovation in the field.
The winning formula
For a quarter of a century, CLAAS has been at the forefront of technological advancements in large tractor construction, and the XERION series has been a testament to their commitment. Launched in the summer of 2023, the XERION 12 Series, with engine outputs of up to 486kW, has set a new standard in the industry. Its revolutionary features include a low-engine speed concept 2.0, producing a maximum torque of up to 3,100 Nm at 1,300 engine revolutions.
The CMATIC continuously variable transmission, with a maximum speed of 40 km/h, coupled with low-engine speed working hydraulics boasting flow rates of up to 537 l/min, adds to the tractor's remarkable capabilities. The XERION's newly developed TERRA TRAC triangular crawler tracks and a four-point suspension cab with an unparalleled all-around view contribute to its unique and exceptional design. The continuous frame with two steering axles ensures extreme load capacity and precise steering.

The XERION 12 Series, particularly the top model XERION 12.650 TERRA TRAC, stands out as a specialist in heavy-duty pulling work across all speed ranges. The balanced 50:50 weight distribution, advanced features like the CMATIC continuous variable transmission, and the CEMOS learning-based assistance system ensure ease of handling and optimal performance.

Dr. von Hoyningen-Huene attributes the success to the dedication of the entire development team in evolving and combining the strengths valued by XERION customers worldwide over the past 25 years.
Model line up
The XERION 12 Series, featuring two models, the 12.590 and the award-winning 12.650, is manufactured in both TERRA TRAC and wheeled TRAC versions at the main CLAAS plant in Harsewinkel. Equipped with 15.6 l Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder engines approved for operation with hydrogenated vegetable oils (HVO), these machines are aligned with sustainable practices.
Beyond their remarkable physical attributes, the XERION 12 Series embraces state-of-the-art onboard and offboard features for digital agriculture. Automated steering, section control, variable rate, and automatic documentation are seamlessly integrated, along with the optimization of machine and process performance through the CEMOS system. The future looks even more connected for the XERION 12 Series with the introduction of CLAAS connect in late 2024, laying the groundwork for high automation of work processes and eventual autonomy.
