6 Reasons why the Valtra G135 Versu won best utility tractor in the 2021 TOTY competition

The Valtra G135 Versu, part of the five-model G Series of compact utility tractors introduced last year, has won Tractor of the Year 2021 honours in the Best Utility category. The TOTY awards were announced during a mid-December virtual ceremony as selected by a jury of international journalists specializing in agriculture machinery. Below are some key factors about the G135 that set it apart from the rest.

1. Dynamite comes in small packages

The Valtra G Series is the first in the 5th generation of Valtra tractors and at the same time a new model series that fits between the popular A and N Series with its 105-135hp offering. It is a compact but powerful multi-purpose tractor for everyday farming needs. The G Series can move and manoeuvre in tight spaces such as barns or farmyards, thanks to the short wheel base and the front end design optimised to maximise turning circle.

2. The right recipe

The G Series features advanced power lift and effective working hydraulics for a variety of applications. The integrated front loader subframe, electronic controls, high visibility bonnet and 5.7 square metres of glass area offers great versatility and visibility for front loader work.

3. Connectivity

The winning model G135 Versu is equipped with the multi-award winning SmartTouch tractor terminal as the first tractor in the 100–145 hp range. This brings the ultimate in “easy to use” technology, and means a full suite of precision farming features. Versu models with the SmartTouch interface can access the same SmartFarming features as the bigger N and T Series models. Active models are also available with autoguidance and precision farming features that can be activated via the SmartTouch Extend terminal.

4. It’s all about power

The new G Series is powered by the reliable four-cylinder 4.4-litre AGCO Power engines. The compact size of the engine enables a very low nose design that provides better visibility for the driver. An electronic waste-gate and a 1600 bar Bosch common rail injection unit offers fast response and plenty of torque across a broad range of engine speeds, expect upwards of 555Nm.

5. In high gear

The G Series features a 24+24R transmission with four ranges and six Powershift gears. The shifts from B to C range and between C and D ranges are automated, making it even easier to operate the tractor, especially on roads.  The parking brake has also been integrated with the forward-reverse shuttle lever, and the driver can programme the transmission settings as desired. The slowest working speed with the creeper gear is just 120 metres per hour, which is ideal for cultivating vegetables, for example.

Other noteworthy features include the ability to operate the Versu using just the drive lever. Other models also do not require much use of the clutch pedal thanks to the addition of AutoTraction. The hill-hold function keeps the tractor stationary even on steep hills without having to use the brakes.

6. Next level lifting

The G Series has been designed to be the ideal tractor for front-loader tasks. It offers excellent visibility, good weight distribution, front-loader that is integrated with the chassis, a hydraulics assistant that automatically increases the engine speed, and the Live 3 feature, which enables the simultaneous use of up to three different front-loader functions.

”We launched the G Series this autumn and we already can see that people have been waiting for this kind of lower hp tractor with big tractor features in. We have received a lot of great feedback all over the Europe,” says Mikko Lehikoinen, Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
