We were asked to join Toyota South Africa for an exclusive pre-launch drive of the new Corolla Cross. Available as both a petrol and hybrid, we were most interested in the hybrid model so naturally, that's the one we grabbed the keys to. Using a modified Prius hybrid architecture, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is the no-mess, no-fuss hybrid that you can enjoy every day of the week without having to worry about the range. Models
The Toyota Corolla Cross officially launches on 3 November 2021 in South Africa and will be available in both Petrol and Hybrid formats. The 1.8-litre petrol model produces 103 kW and 172 Nm torque with a fuel consumption of 6.8 l/100km. The Hybrid model utilizes a 1.8-litre petrol engine in conjunction with an electric hybrid drivetrain for a total power output of 90 kW. This model will return fuel consumption figures of 4.3 l/100km. All models employ a CVT gearbox with 7-step feature. Three trim levels are available, Xi, Xs, and Xr with the Hybrid only available in the two higher-spec levels.
