Five Things We Love about the Hyundai Grand i10

Hyundai have firmly cemented themselves in the B-segment with their Grand i10. Filling a space that exists between their entry-level i10 and mid-level i20, the Grand i10 takes the best of both worlds and moulds it into a very attractive, affordable package. Here, we present to you the five things we love about the Grand i10.

1. The Design

The Grand i10 is about halfway through its lifecycle and has been refreshed for the 2017 year, with an updated front bumper and grille. The rear bumper has also received a makeover, but we absolutely love the new diamond-cut 14-inch alloys that really make the little Hyundai’s side-profile pop.

2. The Space

The Grand i10 is longer and wider than all of its competitors in the segment, meaning that the interior dimensions are bigger. This means that four adults can be seated very comfortably in the Grand i10 with room to spare. This is especially important in the rear, where legroom is a problem for the segment. The boot space in the Grand i10 is also larger. The luggage volume is 225 litres in the smaller i10, but under 295 litres in the i20. The Grand i10 comes in at a well-rounded 256 litres.

3. The Economy

The Grand i10 is powered by a 1.2l NA (naturally aspirated) engine that will deliver 64kW and a punchy 120Nm. I am convinced that the Grand i10 had some sort of onboard machinery that actually made fuel while I was driving, as I was unable to surpass the manufacturer fuel claims of 5.9 litres per 100km – instead, I was hovering at about 4.8! Despite its diminutive size, the 1.2-litre engine actually pulled the car along nicely, and is paired well with the five-speed manual gearbox. This makes for a good combination in the tight confines of the city centre.

4. The Mod Cons 

This is usually a deal-breaker in this segment and the Grand i10 is packed to the gills with convenience. Standard across the range is Bluetooth, USB and AUX inputs along with air-conditioning, high quality cloth seats, central locking, front fog-lamps, a full-size spare wheel, steering-mounted audio controls and an LED-screen trip computer with fuel consumption and range indicators. Also included in the Fluid model we tested, were electric windows and mirrors, and rear- parking assist indicators.

5. The Price

Our favourite thing about the Hyundai Grand i10 is the price.
