How much is my Nissan Patrol worth?

Nissan's Patrol is a legacy SUV that has remained brutish over the years. However, there comes a time to sell any car, but what's the best you could get for your beloved Patrol?

Nissan's efforts with the Patrol have made it a popular alternative to the ever-popular Toyota Land Cruiser. As such, it remains a brutish option but has an element of plushness. We reviewed the Patrol back in 2020, and you can check out our thoughts here.

Just because it's plush doesn't mean it's fragile; the Patrol has been up for the rough stuff for decades, and modern-day SUV needs haven't softened what it's capable of. The current generation Patrol sports the signature Nissan V-Motion grille alongside the boomerang-shaped headlights. Under the bonnet and driving the trick 4x4 drivetrain is a 5.6-litre V8 delivering 298kW and 500Nm. Muscle is an understatement. However, there comes a time when you need to part with your beloved Patrol, but you'd also want to know what the vehicle is worth. So, let's see how much your Patrol is worth.

How to find out how much my Nissan Patrol is worth

Selling your car is an inevitable thing. Perhaps you want a different car because life circumstances and needs have changed; the Patrol is a bigger car with a thirsty engine, so maybe you want something a bit more frugal like an X-Trail. Remember, you want to get the best value out of your car when selling. You'll have to research, but with the right information, you'll be less likely to lose money and be realistic with what your Patrol is worth.

The center console includes a gear shift lever and a multimedia display, all surrounded by wood grain accents. The seats and door panels are upholstered in black leather.

What affects the value of your Nissan Patrol?

To start with, we'll get an indicative value. You can value your Patrol here to get an indicative price. There are a few ways to inspect your car's worth in person or online. In-person assessments are generally the best way to do this, but they need some more effort. Online tools can indicate what you can get, but pictures and videos are limited in showing certain aspects. An In-person assessment can ideally give the exact amount a dealer or even private buyer would be looking at forking out. It's worth noting that values will differ between dealers and private buyers as dealers need to make money and cover the costs of a sale.

Here are a few things to consider that will affect the value of your Patrol: You'll find a mix of well-kept examples, and there will also be some neglected ones as these were either used for 4x4 purposes or some for urban usage solely. There is one variant of the current generation Patrol. Still, you'll find these either kitted out with urban usage body kits, untouched as far as modifications go or kitted up for some offroading. This is a flagship vehicle, so the pool to choose from isn't too big, but you can find some decent examples there. Mileage is a significant factor because, generally speaking, the higher the mileage, the lower the value versus low mileage vehicles, which tend to be valued higher. This is due to high-mileage vehicles having more worn-out components due to frequent use, and in this instance, it also depends on what the Patrol was used for. Don't forget that modifications affect the value of your vehicle, and there's more on that here. Another factor is if the vehicle has been maintained with a comprehensive service history that shows the potential buyer that the vehicle has been well-maintained and cared for.

Do Nissan Patrols hold their value?

From the table below, only one variant of the current Patrol, released in 2020, is available in South Africa. To gauge how much value a Patrol from this era would be worth, we used our data from five model years to gauge how much value is retained. Typically, the older vehicles retain a bit less value, but at the very least, the early model year Patrol tends to retain around 70% of its value, according to our findings.

How do you increase the value of your Nissan Patrol?

Now that you're armed with this information, you can start increasing the value of your Patrol. Let's start by ensuring your Patrol is in the best possible condition. There are a few ways to go about this. Your Patrol needs to be adequately serviced. Replace worn-out components like brakes and tyres; if your budget allows, replace any worn suspension items. Make sure this is done properly with either OEM or good aftermarket spares. Cosmetically, the car needs to be presentable inside and out. Ensure any fitted body kits align and are properly secured. Please also wash your Patrol thoroughly once it's mechanically sound, as a valet does improve the car's value and helps detect potential leaks. All of these factors will affect the value of your Patrol and give you the best possible deal when you decide to sell.
