How do I figure out what my Hyundai i20's value is?
We understand that you don't want to get shortchanged with con-artists hiding around every corner, especially in the used-car business! So how do you find out? Well, there are a few ways to go about it.
1. Search the internet
We recommend going online to used-car marketplaces such as AutoTrader and entering your car's details to get an idea what cars like yours are selling for.
Let's use the Hyundai i20 Active for example. From the drop-down menu, we selected the i20 Active and we are searching by price. At the time this article was written, there was a total of 10 of these Active models on sale.
For example, let's say your car is a 2018 model with 100 000 km on the clock. Now you can search for cars with similar mileage from 2018 to get an idea. Remember that you need to take your car's overall condition into consideration as well.
Our price ratings also show if it's a Great Price, a Fair Price or a High Price.

A note about a car's sticker price online
Bear in mind that the price you see isn't the trade price or book value - it's retail price; that means that it's the value of the car PLUS the money it took to get it into showroom condition, along with a profit margin so the dealer can make a living.
So if you see a high price for your specific car, don't get too excited. You're probably not going to sell your car for this much.
If you go the private route, however, you could sell your car for more than just book/trade-in value. Here's how to negotiate when selling your car privately.

2. Use AutoTrader's online valuation tool
This is really the quickest way to find your car's value. You enter your car's details and voila, we show you the price range for your specific car and its mileage. Take a look - we use live market data to value your car, so you have a realistic and current idea of how much your car is worth. Value your car now.
3. Use the same guide that many dealers use
Many dealerships who don't make use of our valuation tool use the TransUnion Auto Dealers' Guide, previously known as the Mead & McGrouther Auto Dealer's guide, but TransUnion now offers a digital service that does the same job, but it's not free. (As always, it's easier to just stick with AutoTrader and get your valuation done for free. Do it now.)
Verdict
