AC/DC
Charging an electric vehicle can be achieved using either alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC), with the latter being significantly faster. It is important to note that all power that goes into your EV's battery is DC, however, in the case of an AC current, your vehicle's onboard charger will do the conversion, which is why it takes longer to charge. In the case of the DC charge, the charger at the public infrastructure point will have a converter built in, which makes charging faster, but also decreases the longevity of your battery while also costing more. therefore there are pros and cons to both types of charging, with the AC option requiring more planning and DC requiring deeper pockets and the willingness to actively reduce your vehicle's battery lifespan.

Charging your EV at home simply makes the most sense since you have the hours in which you rest/sleep to allow your vehicle to charge. Home charging can be accomplished using a regular wall plug, which will take exceptionally long for any EV with a battery pack that exceeds 50 kWh, or with the use of a dedicated wall box, which many car makers include with the price of the vehicle. The wall box option significantly improves charging times and will prove the most cost-effective option in the long term.
