The Mercedes-Benz ML served as one of the German automaker's premium SUVs. It was later renamed to the GLE, however, retains its capabilities and position in the marketplace. We take a closer look at what is covered under the manufacturer car warranty.

Car Ownership

The current Mercedes-Benz GLE model is offered in six derivatives with a choice of two diesel and one petrol power units. The Mercedes-Benz GLE still have a similar silhouette as the model it replaces, however, features completely new styling cues. Upfront is an imposing grille flanked by new headlamps which are bolstered by a chrome-plated under guard and the bonnet with two power domes. The rear also offers a chrome-plated under guard while on the sides, customers can expect 18 - 22-inch wheels fitted flush with the body.

Warranty

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is sold with a 2-year / unlimited-kilometre warranty as well as 5-year / 100 000 km maintenance plan. While the maintenance plan will ensure the servicing of your vehicle and its smooth operation, the warranty will cover the owner of any defects in the build quality, materials of construction and workmanship.

The warranty will only remain in place if the owner adheres to the servicing schedule set out in the owners' manual. The servicing of the vehicle needs to take place at an official Mercedes-Benz dealership/service centre and all replacement or new parts need to be official Mercedes-Benz parts. The owner is also responsible for all non-service related fluid refills.

Exclusions

Exclusions usually include consumable items that wear during the use of the vehicle. These include items such as non-service related fluids such as the engine oil. Components such as brake discs and pads as well as clutches are also exempted as these items will wear during use. The clutch plates situated in the transmission system is also a wear and tear item and is the responsibility of the owner.

Items constructed by third party companies will also not be covered such as wiper blades and car batteries. Tyres, wheel balancing and wheel alignment is also the responsibility of the owner, however, should the tyres fail, it is recommended that the owner consult the tyre manufacturer as some will carry its own product warranty.

Recommendation

It is very important for owners to fully understand which items are covered under the manufacturer warranty as this can reduce maintenance costs and or clarify responsibility should a component fail. It is recommended that the owner of the vehicle consult the owners' manual for a comprehensive list of items that will not be covered.
