German guarantee
The SLK has been discontinued as a new car for some time but you are still able to find them occasionally. If you are looking at getting into one of these sports cars it may be prudent to find out what kind of warranty you can expect.

The SLK came with Mercedes-Benz' 2 year / Unlimited km warranty and a 5 year / 100 000km maintenance plan. The warranty covers the vehicle against any issues that may arise with build quality, materials of construction, workmanship and any manufacturing defects as long as all service intervals are met and only approved dealers and parts are used during routine maintenance.
But as with many warranties there are some exclusions.

What is not covered by the warranty?
1. Corrective work required as a result of unauthorized alteration or mechanical work
2. Damage to paintwork
3. Repair or maintenance of non Mercedes-Benz supplied or approved accessories
4. Repair or replacement of windscreens, light lenses or body panels
5. Incorrect long term storage preparations
6. The repair of any damage caused to the vehicle as a result of storage of the vehicle.
7. Failure to adhere to recommendations in the owners manual.
8. Failure to carry out daily maintenance and or checks.
9. Damage caused by transport or towing
10. Wheels and tyres, balancing, wheel alignment
11. Repairs arising from motor vehicle accident
12. Use of non specified lubricants, coolants and parts
13. The vehicle being used in motorsport.
14. Misuse of the vehicle in any shape or form.
15. Weather damage ie; hail, flooding, storm debris.
16. Work performed on the vehicle by a workshop or persons other than a dealer and/ or approved paint and panel shop.
17. Consumable items such as batteries, shocks, brakes and rotors, wiper blades, fluid refills and cluthc assemblies.

It should be noted that there are additional exclusions, and more additional information, that owners need to refer to in their Maintenance Plan and roadside assistance agreement. We highly advise to read your owners manual thoroughly and if you are still unsure about something approach to your local Mercedes-Benz dealer.
