Top 7 accessories for a Porsche 718 Cayman
Accessorising a Porsche Cayman needs careful consideration - the car is so good that ill-advised add-ons might disturb its harmony. Here we list our Top 7 accessories for this quality sports car, all of them carrying the Porsche seal of approval.
Porsche’s Cayman is the entry-level Porsche. And it’s such a good car that, after you’ve driven one, you might ask yourself if there is really a need to opt for the more-expensive 911.
The Cayman was first introduced over a decade ago, and it has always essentially been the closed-cabin (coupé) version of the soft-top Boxster - a car which re-introduced a mid-engined layout to Porsche’s product catalogue in the late 1990s.
All Caymans initially came with a horizontally-opposed (flat) 6-cylinder engine, but for the 718 Cayman (introduced a few years ago), a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine was adopted, on the base model and the more-powerful Cayman S alike. However, Porsche subsequently launched revised versions of the 718 Cayman GTS and the 718 Cayman GT4, both of which feature 4.0-litre flat 6-cylinder engines.

Accessorising your Cayman
When it comes to accessorising a Porsche 718 Cayman, the most suitable models to spice up would be the base Cayman and the Cayman S. The GTS and the GT4 are already specialised models, and we feel it would be advisable to keep these cars in standard form because of their future collectable value.
In line with this thinking, we would suggest that you stick to Porsche-approved accessories only for your Cayman. Porsche South Africa offers a range of official Porsche accessories under the Tequipment banner, which can be ordered via the Porsche website. All Porsche accessories should be ordered and fitted by your dealer to avoid possible future warranty issues.
Our Top 7 Porsche Cayman accessories:
1. SportDesign Package
This consists of a re-designed front spoiler and a rear apron. The package involves removing the existing items and fitting these Porsche-designed parts, and for this reason Porsche stipulates that a manufacturer’s certificate has to be produced at your Porsche dealership when they are fitted. This protects the warranty of your 718 Cayman.
Porsche notes that the fitment of these items will reduce the front (approach) and rear (departure) angles of the standard Cayman. In other words, ground clearance will be reduced for negotiating obstacles such as speed bumps and dips, and negotiating driveways with steep angles.
2. Bi-Xenon headlights in black enclosures, including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
The interior components of these headlights are partially finished in black for a more striking and dramatic look. They are only suitable for Caymans originally equipped with Bi-Xenon main headlights and fitted with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS).
3.Darkened tail lights
The interior components of these tail lights are partially finished in black, and partially transparent, for a very striking overall effect. They work in the same manner as the standard taillights, and fit with the standard mountings and wiring.
4. Sports tailpipes
Twin exhaust outlets with a unique look, in chrome-plated stainless steel with a high-gloss finish.
5. Painted rear side air intakes
These air intake embellishers impart a cool, motorsport-orientated look to the flanks of your Cayman. They can be painted to match your car’s exterior colour.
6. Rim trim striping.
This set consists of trim stickers for the circumferential rim edge of your Cayman’s wheels, with the "PORSCHE" logo in selected colours. They are available for 20- and 21-inch wheels.
7. Model designation door logo.
These logos for the various Cayman model designations are available in Black, Silver and Red. They brighten up the car's flanks, yet retain the classy look that is befits a Porsche's personality.
