The Nissan NP200 is the last bastion in the half-tonne bakkie market and has aided in building many businesses. My colleague Chad Lückhoff drove the Stealth Edition a while back, and you can watch his review here. The NP2000 sold aplenty over the years with a mix of 1.6 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines. Not only that, there have been a few special edition models, too.

The NP200 has been a robust bakkie in our market since it arrived in the late 2000s. However, much like any car, there are some dashboard warning lights you'll need to take note of and understand what they mean. We've compiled a list of warning lights you'll find in your NP200. Exact light icons and meanings will vary from model to model, year to year and spec to spec. The NP200 has remained more or less the same over its lifetime with some additions in safety and spec, so some lights may differ. To get the most accurate information on that front, consult your owner's manual for not only the meanings but also solutions to solve potential issues. You can also reach out to a professional if you need clarification on any warning light or if the vehicle calls for a professional to assess and sort it.
Warning Lights
Door Open Warning Light - One of the vehicle doors is open or ajar. Close the open door to turn off the warning light.
Low Fuel Warning Light - Comes on when the engine is started and goes off after 3 seconds. If the light remains on, fill up with fuel to turn it off.
Coolant Temperature Warning Light - This goes off as the engine starts. If while driving, the light goes on, stop and let the vehicle idle until the temperature drops after a short time of about a minute or 2. If the temperature doesn't fall, stop the vehicle in a safe place, then switch off the engine and let it cool down completely. You'll need to contact a qualified service centre to get the vehicle checked.
Oil Temperature Warning Light - This goes off when the engine starts. If the light stays on while driving, stop the vehicle in a safe place, switch off the engine and check the oil level. If the oil level is normal and the light stays on, then a qualified service centre will need to assess the vehicle.
Engine immobiliser system warning light - This warning light performs several functions. This light will flash continuously, and the engine will not start if the vehicle doesn't recognise the coded ignition key. If the correct functioning key is used, the light will flash for 3 seconds when the ignition is switched on, then switch off. You can then start the engine. When the ignition is off, the light will flash constantly, indicating the vehicle is protected. If after the ignition has been switched on and the light still flashes, there's a system operation fault, and you'll need to have the car assessed by a qualified service centre.
Electronic malfunction warning light (if equipped) - If this light remains on or appears while driving, there may be an electrical fault.
Battery charge warning light - This light should go off when the engine starts. If this comes on while driving, it means the system is overcharging or has discharged. Stop the vehicle in a safe place, and the vehicle will need to be assessed by a qualified service centre.
Toxic Fume Filter System Warning Light (if equipped) - Comes on when the ignition is switched on and then goes off. If the light comes on continuously or if the light flashes while driving, a professional will need to assess the vehicle at a qualified service centre.
Anti-lock braking warning light - Comes on when the ignition is switched on and off in about 3 seconds. If this comes on while driving, there may be a fault with the anti-lock braking system. The vehicle will need to be assessed at a qualified service centre immediately.
Air bag warning light - Comes on when the ignition is switched on and goes off after a few seconds. If the light doesn't come on in that procedure or lights up when the engine is on, then there's a fault in the system. The vehicle will need to be assessed at a qualified service centre immediately.
Front passenger airbag deactivation warning light - After the passenger airbag has been deactivated (If this function is equipped.), this light will illuminate and confirm that you can fit a child seat.
