Is a Toyota Quantum expensive to maintain?

We investigate to find out what the estimated cost is to maintain a Toyota Quantum.

Car Ownership

You can find the Toyota Quantum models all over South Africa as they are most popular in the transport sector. Considering just how much distance each of these vehicles travels every day, one must wonder what the estimated maintenance cost is. Below we have some estimated costs on parts and service items used for the 30 000km service interval of an earlier generation 14-seater Toyota Quantum.

Readers should note that these figures are merely estimates and were collected in 2019. Since Toyota introduced a brand new Quantum model in the same year, this pricing is more likely to be associated with the model it replaced which is now known as the Hiace bus. Pricing of each component should have changed since and we recommend contacting your closest Toyota dealership for an updated and accurate quotation.

Warranty and service

Before you get worried about the maintenance on your new Toyota Quantum, note that included in the purchase price of the model is a 9-services / 90 000km service plan, as well as a 3-year / 100 000km warranty, should something fail during the initial ownership period. For a new Hiace, Toyota includes the same 9-services / 90 000km service plan and 3-year / 100 000km warranty.

Tyres

After a quick search online from a prominent tyre retailer and fitter locally, we found 235/65 R16 tyres as found on the new Quantum retailing for as little as R1 599.00 per tyre while some of the more premium tyre brands sell for around R3 000.00 per tyre. As prices are subject to change, it is best you request a quotation from a local tyre retailer.

For the 195 R15 tyres used on the previous Quantum or current Hiace bus, we found that pricing ranges between around R900.00 and up to R2 000.00 per tyre.

Service

As alluded to earlier, we managed to collect an average 30 000km servicing cost for a 14-seater, Toyota Quantum in 2019. While these figures serve as a good estimated cost for the previous generation Quantum or current Hiace models, we do recommend speaking to your local Toyota servicing department for current pricing.
