How to top up windscreen washer fluid on a Mahindra Pik Up
Mahindra’s Pik Up has built a loyal following among value-conscious South African bakkie buyers. Not only are they rugged, but they’re also quite easy to maintain, as demonstrated by the extremely simple method to refill the windscreen washer fluid reservoir. We take you through this process, step by simple step.
You will need:
- Clean water
- Windscreen washer fluid (optional, but highly recommended to deal with bug smears)

How to top up the screen wash on a Mahindra Pik Up.
1. Locate the bonnet release lever inside the cabin. It’s mounted at the bottom edge of the dashboard panel, roughly in line with the accelerator pedal. There’s a T-shaped handle attached to the end, and it’s very easy to locate.
2. Release the bonnet catch. To access this catch, lift the bonnet’s leading edge slightly, and push the recessed lever to your left (i.e. to the driver’s side of the vehicle). Once clear, the bonnet should open fully through the assistance of gas struts.
3. Locate the windscreen washer filler point. In current-model Pik Ups, the reservoir is mounted between the left (passenger-side) headlight and the fender, with a very convenient filler cap located just behind the headlight (circled in yellow in the image).

4. Lift the pull-tab of the reservoir cap, fill up with water/screenwash fluid mix until the fluid becomes visible in the filler neck, and refit the reservoir cap.
5. Close the bonnet by pulling it about 2/3 of the way down, then drop it to engage the primary latch. Once latched, push downwards on the bonnet with moderate force (with both hands, ideally aligned roughly with the headlamps’ inner edges, to engage the secondary latches.
6. As a final test, operate the screenwasher just to check that all is as it should be.
