The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was introduced locally as far back as 2011 and remains available as a new vehicle in the local market. If you should own one of the earlier models, chances are the battery might be showcasing signs of fatigue and with the winter climate coming in strong might need replacement. While it might look intimidating, it shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes with some basic tools.
Batteries are one of those items that will inevitably need to be replaced at some point in your vehicle's lifespan. And you will find that you will most likely have to do so during winter. This is because the colder climate slows down the chemical reactions taking place inside the battery which produce the electricity your vehicle require to start and run.
What do you need?
- Socket wrench
- 10 mm socket
- 13 mm socket
- Replacement battery
- Gloves

Find the radio security code and have it on hand to unlock it after the battery replacement.
Procedure
Step 1: Move the vehicle into a well-lit area and switch off the ignition.
Step 2: Open the bonnet and locate the battery on the passenger side of the vehicle. Put on gloves to keep your hands clean during the replacement steps and to avoid getting any chemicals on your skin.
Step 3: Remove the engine cover to create more space. The cover easily clips out of position without any tools needed.
Step 4: By pressing down on the red release button, slide the loom connecter carrying the negative charge off the negative terminal. Stow it to the side and ensure it does not make contact with the positive terminal on the battery.
Step 5: Using the 10mm socket, undo the connector on the negative terminal of the battery and stow it to the side.
Step 6: By pressing the release clips on the sides, remove the plastic cover from the positive terminal.
Step 7: Using the 10mm socket, undo the connector on the positive terminal of the battery and stow it to the side.
Step 8: At the base of the battery is a securing plate which also acts as the securing point for the strap keeping the battery in place. Using a 13 mm socket, undo the bolt on the securing plate and stow it and the strap at the rear of the battery.
Step 9: You can now proceed to lift the battery out of the tray and insert the replacement battery.
Step 10: Following the steps above in reverse order, proceed to secure the new battery and all the accompanying cables into place. Be sure to not overtighten any bolts.
