There's no denying that most Toyota Avanzas work rather hard, serving as a taxi, shuttle or just carting the kids to and from school and soccer practice.
It's safe to say that, even though it's a Toyota, things are bound to wear out. The headlight bulbs have a finite lifespan and will at some or another point require a new headlight bulb. The good news is that this is an easy, DIY job that requires no tools, only a fresh set of headlight bulbs.
We recommend changing both at the same time for consistent, even illumination of the road.

You will need:
- A new headlight bulb, the Avanza uses a type H4 bulb.
- A few spare minutes.
How to:
1. Locate the bonnet release catch and open the bonnet.
2. Locate the rubber boot and electrical plug on the backside of the headlight housing.
3. Remove the plug by pulling it away from the headlight. This may require a little wiggling from side to side.
4. Remove the rubber boot covering the back of the housing by tugging on the rubber tab.
5. Unclip the retaining spring by pinching it inwards.
6. Pull the retaining clip out of the way and remove the bulb by pulling it outwards.
7. Insert the new bulb taking care not to touch the glass with your bare hands (the oil from your skin can cause premature failure), taking care with the orientation.
8. Install the retaining clip.
9. Replace the rubber boot.
10. Attach the electrical connector.
11. Test the headlights.
