How to change wiper blades on a Renault Mégane (III)

While it is difficult to predict the weather, knowing when to change out old wiper blades for new ones is easy. If you have noticed that you need to replace the blades on your third-generation Renault Mégane, follow our easy step-by-step guide here.

Car Ownership

Having clear visibility from the driver seat is crucial if you want to avoid accidents. One of the components ensuring you gain much-needed visibility is windscreen wiper blades. Produced from a soft silicone-based rubber compound, wiper blades will only last between 6 months and 2 years depending on the operating conditions and if the vehicle spends a lot of time baking in the sun.

This is why it is very important to inspect the blades every so often to ensure there are no visible cracks and that the rubber hasn't hardened yet. If the set fitted to your Mégane is too far gone, follow these easy steps and replace them before the next storm.

What you need

- Replacement wiper blades with the correct clip. Replacement sets can be acquired directly from the dealer or from specialised automotive part retailers.

- Soft cloth

Replacement steps

Step 1: Switch off your vehicle and make sure the parking brake is engaged.

Step 2: Go to the driver side of the windscreen and gently lift the wiper blade from the surface. Take care to not lift too much as the arm might make contact with the bonnet.

Step 3: Locate the two release buttons on the clip securing the wiper blade to the arm. Press down on the buttons while sliding the blade away from the wiper arm.

Step 4: While you fetch the replacement blade, be sure not to lower the arm directly onto the windscreen surface, instead place a soft cloth before lowering.

Step 5: Slide the base of the replacement blade over the wiper arm until you hear a click.

Step 6: Repeat the steps for the driver-side on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Step 7: Using the soft cloth and soapy water, clean the windscreen and remove any dust or debris that can cause scratches.

Step 8: Move to the rear of the vehicle and lift the wiper blade away from the glass.

Step 9: Tilt the blade perpendicular to the arm and clip it out of place.

Step 10: Align the new blade and in reverse order of the removing step, clip the blade back into place.

Step 11: Clean the rear windscreen using soapy water and a soft cloth and test both the front and rear wipers.
