How to change the wiper blades on your Mahindra KUV100
Mahindra’s strange little hatchback/crossover city car is designed to be easy to maintain, even without special tools. This is perfectly demonstrated by the very simple process of changing the wiper blades on a Mahindra KUV100 using nothing but your own two hands.
One major advantage of the KUV100’s design is that the wiper arms easily clear the rear edge of the bonnet, making it easy to lift them away from the windscreen and have them stand upright without assistance. We’ll demonstrate using the driver’s side wiper, but the exact same procedure applies on the passenger (left-hand) side as well.
Before we start, first a helpful tip: if you think that you might be unsure of how to fit everything back together again, take phone photos of the complete wiper assembly before you start. This will help you figure out the orientation of locating clips when you reassemble the wipers. If you still don't feel comfortable performing this operation, rather have a friend or workshop help you out. It's really easy to do this, though, so read on through:
1. Lift the wiper arm away from the windscreen, until they click into their upright position. (Yellow arrow, passenger side shown.)
2. With the wiper arm standing upright, rotate the wiper blade (blue arrow) until there’s easy access to the mounting clip (purple arrow).
3. See that little plastic tab in the yellow circle? Press it towards the wiper arm, while gently pressing the wiper blade towards the windscreen (blue arrow), as shown in the second image. Be careful when doing this: if you have to apply significant force, you’re doing it wrong, and might damage the wiper arm or the windscreen.
If you’re doing it right, the wiper blade will now be dislocated from the wiper arm, and can be removed by sliding it down until it clears the wiper arm’s end.
5. Taking note of the orientation of the mounting clip, unhook the wiper blade from the arm, put the new one in position with the same orientation, and simply slide it towards the end of the wiper arm (in the direction of the broken green arrow) until the new blade clicks into position.
6. Repeat this procedure on the second wiper blade.
7. Gently wipe down the windscreen where the two wiper blades rest against it, and then test the wipers using the car’s screenwasher. Inspect the locating tabs afterwards, just to make sure that they’re seated properly.
8. Wipe the sweat from your forehead, congratulate yourself on a job well done, and grab a frosty drink to celebrate.
