How often should a BMW 1 Series be serviced?

Keeping a regular service schedule for your vehicle is not only important for reliability, it will also ensure that your vehicle runs as efficiently as possible. Here's the service schedule for the BMW 1 Series.

Car Ownership

Car ownership comes with a few considerations that need to be taken into account when buying a car. Not only do you need to ensure that you keep the vehicle licensed and insured, but you also need to ensure that the vehicle is maintained to avoid unnecessary headaches. Servicing a vehicle is a task usually handled by a dealership that deals with your specific make and model.

Regular servicing will ensure that your warranty remains valid for the period stipulated by the manufacturer and will help avoid unnecessary breakdowns, and expensive repairs and most of all, ensure that your fuel economy isn't negatively affected. That's right, a vehicle that is due for or past its service date will use more fuel than one that is maintained accordingly.

BMW 1 Series Service Schedule

The BMW 1 Series is, for many, the entry point into BMW ownership and many 1 Series owners are first-time BMW owners. This brings with it a new set of challenges and a different routine, especially when it comes to servicing your vehicle.

We recommend only using BMW dealerships for your services. While this is advisable while the vehicle is under warranty, we recommend continuing the services with a BMW dealership even after the warranty and maintenance plan has expired for the best results.

The BMW 1 Series is a technical offering and the onboard computers will calculate how often your BMW should be serviced. By going into your iDrive menu and selecting Service Info, you will be able to see when your BMW is next due for a service. This period will depend on the amount that you drive and how you drive, calculating the best time for a service.

As a rule, a vehicle should be serviced at least once every 12 months or 15 000 km if powered by a petrol engine. Diesel engines have shorter periods and most manufacturers will recommend servicing your diesel vehicle every 10 000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. In the case of a diesel-powered BMW 1 Series, the onboard computer will let you know when is best.
