The One
The 1 series is entry into BMW ownership. Of course with it being the entry level into the brand, unless you specify otherwise, your model is going to come with Halogen style headlights and unfortunately these don't last as long as the LED units do.
Never fear though, as we can save you a trip to the dealership, if yours go out, and show you how to quickly replace them in just a few minutes with very few tools.
You will need:
- New bulbs for your year and model
- Small flat headed screwdriver
- Soft Cloth
Lets get started!
- Turn the wheels, full lock, to the right.
- Locate the access panel and using the flat-head screwdriver, remove the two retaining clips.
- Remove the access panel and place it one side.
- Locate the rear cover of the headlight and turn it anti-clockwise to remove.
- Unclip the electrical connector on the back of the bulb.
- Unclip the bulb and pull it from the housing gently.
- Insert a new bulb and ensure that it seats properly.
- Reconnect the electrical connector and replace the rear housing.
- Reinstall the access cover, the reverse of the removal.
- Repeat this process for the other side.
Don't touch the bulb glass with your bare hands as oils from your fingers will transfer to the glass and burn into place shortening the bulbs lifespan. Rather use the soft cloth to ensure that everything is clean and dirt free.
