High-tech safety kit you can now retrofit to your used Volvo
As part of Volvo's Intellisafe Campaign, with the vision that no-one should be seriously killed or injured in a Volvo by 2020, you can now have some select safety features retrofitted to your used Volvo if it isn't older than model year 2016.
1. Run-off Road Mitigation
Let's say it's late at night and you're not as alert behind the wheel as you should be. Sooner or later you feel drowsy and start going off-road by mistake. Run-off road mitigation will prevent this from happening in the first place, and will activate the brakes to help keep you where you should be - on the road and not in the bushes beside it.
2. BLIS with Steer Assist
BLIS is an acronym for Blind Spot Information System. It alerts you when a vehicle enters your blind spot or approaches from behind. Should you accidentally drive into the other lane in front of the oncoming traffic, this particular software upgrade will help you steer back into the safe lane.
3. Oncoming Lane Mitigation
This system works by alerting a driver who has veered out of his lane and providing automatic steering assistance to guide them back into their own lane, and out of the path of oncoming traffic. This system is active between 60-140 km/h.
4. Oncoming Mitigation by Braking
Volvo's Oncoming Mitigation by Braking can actually detect if a vehicle is heading towards you on the wrong side of the road. It will prime the brakes and fully engage them should you be unable to get out of the oncoming vehicle's way.
