Changing wiper blades on a Peugeot 208

One of the DIY jobs you can do easily on a Peugeot 208 is to change the wiper blades when the old ones wear out. Here’s our handy step-by-step guide.

Car Ownership

The current model Peugeot 208 is a classy hatchback with a beautifully smooth ride. A new model is expected to be launched shortly, but owners of the current model can rest assured that they are driving one of the most integrated small-sized hatchbacks on the market, with great steering and strong unobtrusive performance.

A 20-minute DIY job

One of the easy DIY jobs you can do on your Peugeot 208 s to change the wiper blades, when the time comes for replacement. It’s a simple task, and fortunately removing the old worn blades and fitting new ones is a simple task that should easily be completed in about 20 minutes.

The first step is to make sure you secure the correct set of replacement blades. These will be available from a Peugeot dealership, and you should also check spares outlets for more cost-effective replacement blades.

However, there are some specific procedures that need to be followed. Chief of these is to activate the Service Mode on the Peugeot’s wiper system to enable easy access to them. Here’s our step-by-step guide to completing the task successfully.

Step-by-step wiper replacement on a Peugeot 208

1. To gain easy access to the wiper arms, so that they clear the edge of the bonnet, you need to raise them into a servicing position on the windscreen. To do this, turn the ignition switch on, but don’t activate the starter motor.

2. Now immediately switch the ignition to the off position.

3. Press down once on the windscreen wiper stalk to the right of the steering column.

4. The wiper arms will now raise to the top screen and stay there.

5. Start with either wiper arm of your choice. Pull the blade away from the screen. Keep pulling, and the arm will click into a raised position away from the windscreen, enabling you to manipulate the blade. Locate the release button on the frame of the blade.

6. Press the release button with your thumb.

7. Continue to keep the release button pressed in and support the arm with your other hand. Now ease the blade out of its mounting slot on the wiper arm. You may have to jiggle it slightly to get it moving outwards. The old blade will come free of the wiper arm. Make sure not to bend the arm or force things by being too hasty.

8. Insert the new blade into the wiper arm slot and ease it slowly downwards into position.

9. Once the blade is properly located, the little release button on the new blade will pop up into the securing slot on the wiper arm with a slight clicking noise. Now fold the wiper arm back towards the screen, so the blade rests on the windscreen.

10. Repeat the process with the other blade. Test the wipers to see that they are doing their job correctly, and you are done!
