Ford South Africa recently introduced a 4X4 XLT derivative to its already impressive Everest range. The newcomer is fitted with a 2.0-litre single turbo engine coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission. This combination is capable of producing 132 kW and 420 Nm of torque and according to Ford has an average fuel consumption figure of 7.1 L / 100 km.

Although the Everest has an elegantly sculpted exterior, underneath it features the latest in off-roading technology from the American manufacturer and is capable of tackling the route less travelled. To bolster this, there is a host of accessories that can be specified during the purchasing stage or even retrofitted at a later stage. Let us take a look at the top three options available for the Ford Everest.

1. Nudge bar

Customers have a full range of nudge bars to choose from ranging from basic examples with Everest branding to items incorporating wrap around bars further protecting the lower bumper. While some are specifically for vehicles without front park distance control, others provide sensor bezels for vehicles with the technology. The most extreme option is a steel bumper and bull bar with built-in fog lamps and indicators and will appeal to the most hardcore 4X4 enthusiasts.

2. Snorkel

Have you ever seen elephants wade through deep water? Well, you might have noticed their trunks are usually found upright and well away from the water. A snorkel for a vehicle works in the same way where instead of your vehicle drawing air from a lower fitted and easily submerged airbox, it now draws air from the snorkel that sits well above the surface of the water. This ensures that the engine receives the essential air it needs to run even while the vehicle is wading through deep water and is a must item for off-roading enthusiasts.

3. Fridge

Looking for cold refreshments during your trip? Optionally available for your Everest is a 15 L fridge that can be secured on the rear bench. Placed on the centre seat of the rear bench, the fridge takes up minimal space and allows for passengers either side of it. The fridge named the Day Tripper is secured with a safety belt features removable shelves to accommodate larger items. The fridge is powered by one of the 12V sockets found in the Everest and there is an optional adapter available which will allow owners to plug it into a wall socket.
