12 Ferrari F12 accessories you didn’t know you needed.

The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta made its first local appearance in 2013 to replace the famed Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. The F12 takes shape as a Grand Tourer with a long sculpted bonnet covering the 6.3-litre, V12 petrol engine. The most powerful Ferrari at the time, the F12 Berlinetta produce 544 kW and 690 Nm of torque which will allow it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 8.5 seconds.

The F12 Berlinetta is the last of a long line of Ferraris to be designed by Pininfarina, an Italian design house that is also responsible for iconic models such as the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, the 1984 Ferrari Testarossa and the 1987 Ferrari F40. The Ferrari F12 is also the first production GT car from the Italian automaker to feature active aerodynamics. It becomes clear that the F12 Berlinetta pretty much had everything you want in a Ferrari, however, this did not stop the Italian firm from developing accessories and here are our top 12.

1. Front suspension lift

Looking at some speedbumps and curbs in South Africa, you might wonder how will you be able to take the F12 Berlinetta anywhere. Ferrari offers an optional front suspension lift kit which when activated will via the suspension system lift the front of the vehicle by a further 40mm. 

This assist in mitigating small scratches that could take place on the front splitter or number while going over the speed bump or over uneven surfaces. Once over the obstacle, the driver can again lower the front and enjoy the dynamic driving characteristics of the F12 Berlinetta. 

2. Tyre pressure monitoring

The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is first and foremost a performance vehicle and will need all of its components to be in perfect working order. Four components that are sometimes overlooked is the tyres. Being the only components that connect the vehicle to the road, it is important that the tyres not only have enough tread but is also at optimal pressure.

This is why this accessory features close to the top of our list. Not only does this system provide for convenience, not having to stop at a fuel station to manually check pressures, but can be a lifesaving tool should one or more tyres deflate while driving due to a puncture or cut. 

3. AFS headlights

Visibility is crucial for any driver wanting to navigate a corner at speed and the Advanced Front-lighting System (AFS) headlights will assist with this. While driving the vehicle's computer relays the steering wheel position to the headlights will adjust the beam in real-time to shine into a corner rather than just in front of the vehicle. This will assist the driver to notice any potential dangers in the corner earlier.

4. Parking camera

The reason we chose this accessory as part of our list is self-explanatory. Most owners won't use their prized possession daily which makes it difficult to get used to the dimensions of the vehicle on the occasion it is driven. This system sees cameras fitted to the front and rear of the F12 Berlinetta alongside parking sensors. Not only will it provide a video feed and audible warnings, but it also incorporates a virtual grid to assist the driver in assessing the distance to an object.

5. Anti-stone chipping protective film

While on the topic of protecting your Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, why not consider the anti-stone chipping protection film. This tough transparent protective film is applied to areas of the Ferrari which most likely will experience debris or stones. The film is almost unnoticeable to the naked eye, however, will protect the F12's paint from road rash. The protective film can also be ordered in sectional kits for when you only want to replace the film on certain areas of the vehicle. 

6. Carbon fibre headlamp tubs

Not all accessories have to be functional, some could be added to make your Ferrari F12 appear more sporty or "meaner". Accessories like the carbon fibre headlamp tubs will not only result in a slightly light construction but mostly strong aesthetic impact. 

7. Carbon fibre rear fog light bezel

It is a similar case with the carbon fibre fog light surround. While functionally it won't do much for the safety or performance of your Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, however, it will bolster the aesthetics.

8. Carbon fibre diffuser

The diffuser on the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta performs a very important function. It is there to not only accelerate the air coming from beneath the vehicle but through that acceleration cause a vacuum that sucks the vehicle towards the ground. This results in increased downforce which results in improved mechanical traction. 

The carbon fibre diffuser not only performs this duty but was also designed to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle. Furthermore, the component improves on the aerodynamic efficiency, with rear fins which redirect airflow and reduce turbulence. To further compliment the carbon fibre theme on the exterior of the vehicle, Ferrari offers customers a host of interior trim pieces. This includes carbon fibre door trims which not only carry through the sporty theme but is also lighter than the standard units.

10. Carbon fibre F1 shift paddles

Did you know, the first production car to be offered with a paddle-shift transmission was the Ferrari F355 F1. Since then the technology has been available on all Ferrari models. The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta exclusively comes with a 7-speed, dual-clutch F1 transmission, however, you do have the option of swapping out the aluminium paddles out for carbon fibre items to finish off the aggressive styling. 

11. Passenger display

Ferrari has cleverly developed a simple solution to bolster the experience of the passenger. The passenger display is installed into the dashboard and gives the passenger access to information such as engine speed, vehicle speed, gear selected, manettino setting, repeated navigation information symbols and the trip computer.

12. Universal Datarace HD

While a simple action camera will do fine in capturing your most impressive laps on a track day, the Datarace system embeds performance data into the footage. Not only will the driver gain access to a circuit map, GPS position on the track, acceleration information but also the lap time. This allows the driver to review its performance make adjustments to driving lines and or braking points to improve lap times.

Additionally, drivers can opt for the CAN version of the system which not only provides all of the above but incorporates and an additional dashboard unit to display the lap times. It even functions as a datalogger, acquiring information directly from the vehicle ECU.
