In 2007 the Ikon offered three engines that consisted of the 1.4-litre Ambiente petrol, which develops 61 kW at 6 000 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 4 000 rpm; a 1.6-litre Trend petrol which offers 74 kW at 6 500 rpm and 143 Nm at 4 000 rpm; and lastly the 1.4-litre Trend Duratorq TDCi, which develops 50 kW at 4 000 rpm and 160 Nm at 2 000 rpm.
In 2009 the line-up was then upgraded with the 1.4-litre petrol engine being replaced by a more powerful 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 74 kW at 6 500 rpm and 143 Nm at 4 000 rpm.

Diesel Engine
The 1.4-litre diesel engine remained unchanged with a turbocharger and electronically controlled direct injection; it offers excellent torque, remarkable fuel economy and notably low emissions. It produces a maximum power output of 50 kW at 4 000 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 2 000 rpm.
2009 Ikon
For these 2009-onwards models, buyers have the options of the 1.4L TDCi in Ambiente spec or the 1.6L petrol in Ambiente or Trend guise. The Ambiente spec models featured driver and passenger airbags, body-colour bumpers and door handles, 15-inch steel wheels and a full-size spare wheel.
The 1.6L Trend model offered additional features such as a sport suspension, body colour bumpers with fog lamps, headlight with chrome bezel integral indicators and body colour door mirrors. Optimum aluminium interior door handles, painted gear shift and park brake further enhanced the interior package.
Verdict
There are plenty of car options on the used car market, but if you are really after a Ford Ikon, then the decision is up to you and what is available. Considering the age of these vehicles we can’t really say which is best. It entirely depends on how well the car and its engine was maintained. You’d need a mechanic to have a look over the engine before buying one and ask if there is any service history with it. Then, depending on the price and how reliable it may seem, you can make a decision from there.
