What is the cheapest Suzuki car?
Suzuki’s local business strategy revolves to a large degree around affordability and value for money, so most of their products are very competitively priced. But there’s one model that beats them all in this area. In fact, it’s one of the cheapest new cars in our market!
The current trend towards “buying down” has seen massive growth in the budget-car segment, thanks to rising car prices and rocketing fuel prices. But, while there are some even more-affordable (albeit relatively unknown) Chinese competitors in this price bracket, the least-expensive new car from a mainstream brand comes from Suzuki.
Make no mistake, the Suzuki S-Presso feels as cheap as it is, but it’s still a cut above similarly-priced opponents in this regard. In many ways, it does a remarkable impersonation of a full-size car, especially if your driving is mostly confined to urban areas.

In base-line GL trim, the S-Presso will set you back R 152 900. And, while it doesn’t have the touchscreen infotainment system and fancy paintwork of the more-expensive variants, it nonetheless still comes with front electric windows, remote central locking, power steering, 2 airbags, and ABS as standard. Included in the base price is a strong warranty for 5 years or 200 000 km, as well as a service plan for 2 years or 30 000 km.
Outputs from the S-Presso’s 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine amounts to 50 kW and 90 Nm, so performance is sure to be leisurely, but the pay-off comes with a claimed average fuel consumption figure of 4.9 litres/100 km. Real-world usage will still return low-5 litres/100 km averages, so the S-Presso is bound to be as cheap to fuel as it is to buy.
