As BMW's smallest and most attainable model, the 1 Series is one of the best options for South Africans looking to get into the Bavarian brand, but who do not necessarily have the biggest budget.

The cheapest BMW
At the time of writing this article, the most affordable BMW product was the BMW 1 Series 118i which retails for R 625 072. The hatchback model comes fitted with a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 103 kW and 220 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In terms of comfort items, occupants can expect airconditioning, cruise control, and navigation as standard. The 5-Star EuroNCAP safety rating was achieved in part due to its 6 standard airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, a raft of electronic safety systems, and optional semi-autonomous safety systems.
