What is the cheapest BAIC you can buy?

BAIC recently discontinued its D20 and X25 ranges, however, introduced the B40 Plus and Beijing X55 models locally. But which model is the most affordable to purchase at the moment? We find out here.

BAIC is one of the many Chinese automakers that have been making waves locally. Not only did the automotive producer open an R11 billion assembly plant in Gqeberha in 2018, but the automaker has also gone on the offensive with introductions of SUV and crossover models locally. The first to arrive was the B40 Plus model in 2021 and in 2022 the Beijing X55 made its debut.

In this article, we find out which of the two model ranges offers the most affordable option available from the Chinese automaker. Cheapest BAIC model

At the time of writing this article, the cheapest BAIC model available was the Beijing X55. The Beijing X55 comes in three trim levels and the most affordable is the Dynamic guise. This model comes fitted with a 1.5-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol motor coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine produces 130 kW and 305 Nm of torque and is claimed to return an average combined fuel consumption figure of 7.3 L / 100 km.

Warranty and service
