Top safety features on a JMC Vigus

As the most popular vehicle type within the South African market, the humble bakkie is potentially one of the best segments in which an emerging manufacturer can attempt to grab some market share. Having made mention of this, the fiercely brand loyal South African consumer has certainly narrowed their collective tastes down to a few manufacturers, meaning that while the segment is bustling, new entrants have to offer something unique to appeal to the local consumer. In the case of the JMC Vigus, its unique selling proposition is most certainly its sub-R400 000 price tag.

JMC’s N350 platform underpins the Vigus, despite its design resembling the likes to the Ford Ranger T6 and Mazda BT-50. However, it is powered by a Ford-derived Puma 2.4-litre TDCi turbodiesel engine that produces 103 kW and 310 Nm of torque with a 5-speed manual gearbox being the only transmission option. The Vigus is currently only sold as a double cab model, with a rear-wheel drive and a 4x4 option.

1.Airbags

The Vigus, while not exactly excelling in the airbag department, has certainly improved upon its predecessor, the JMC Boarding when it comes to safety items. With a driver and front passenger airbags, the Vigus scrapes through on the acceptability chart when it comes to airbags.

2. Safety systems

In terms of safety systems, again, the Vigus provides only the most basic items, such as anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution (ABS with EBD) along with rear Park Distance Control (PDC) along with 3-point harnesses on all of the vehicle’s seatbelts which also feature force limiters.
