The evolution of a legacy
For many years, the Mitsubishi Triton has been a beloved bakkie among South African drivers, thanks to its strong lineage from the iconic Colt. Fast forward to 2024, and the Triton has evolved to balance rugged performance with modern design and technology. The brand says the Next-Gen Triton marks a new era in this legacy by enhancing comfort, safety, and versatility.

Here are the biggest changes to the new model and other noteworthy facts:
1. Expansive interior and exterior upgrades
The sixth-generation Triton has undergone significant redesigns, including the interior, exterior, ladder frame chassis, and engine. This extensive overhaul ensures that the Triton meets the needs of modern bakkie owners.

Fresh design
Inspired by the "Beast Mode" design concept, the front design showcases the Dynamic Shield with a robust grille, fenders, and bumper. The L-shaped LED daytime running lights and three-light headlights create a commanding presence. The robust body sides and T-shaped taillights emphasise stability and toughness, while aerodynamic efficiency is maintained through the cabin shape and rear spoiler.
The Next-Gen Triton's larger load bin and 3500kg towing capacity make it suitable for both lifestyle and commercial use. The well-equipped model range includes 11 derivatives.
New cabin
The Triton's interior offers advanced technology and a thoughtful, somewhat utilitarian design. An eight-inch infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and a seven-inch multi-information display provides ease of use. The ergonomic design, including the steering wheel and door handles, enhances grip comfort and sturdiness.

Warranty
The Next-Gen Triton will be sold with the Diamond Advantage Warranty, which includes a five-year/unlimited mileage, unrestricted warranty, and a five-year/90 000km service plan.
2. It has won multiple awards
Since its global debut, the Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton has garnered numerous awards. These include the RJC Car of the Year Special Award for 2025, the iF Design Award 2024, and the 2023 Good Design Award by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. These accolades affirm the Triton's excellence in design and performance.
3. It features a powerful new engine & new chassis
The Triton is powered by a brand new 4N16 DI-DC engine, delivering 135kW and 430Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. (A more powerful model with 150kW and 470 Nm will join the lineup at the end of 2025.)
For those needing a more budget-oriented, workhorse bakkie, lower-spec GL models feature the brand's 2.4-litre DI-DC engine with 81 kW and 200 Nm, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission.
A new chassis frame ensures better overall performance, stability, and durability. The redesigned front suspension offers improved control, while the updated leaf spring setup in the rear reduces weight without compromising capability.
