Adaptive Cruise Control

The new Volkswagen Amarok offers customers adaptive cruise control which, by means of sensors and radar, monitors the traffic ahead of the Amarok and automatically slows down if it detects deceleration in the car in front. The system is now so advanced that it will also automatically come to a complete stop and once the traffic starts moving again, it will automatically set off again without any input from the driver whatsoever.

Lane Assist Pro with adaptive lane guidance

Another impressive semi-autonomous driver assist system to be introduced in the new Amarok is the Lane Assist Pro with adaptive lane guidance. As the name suggests, the radar and cameras fitted to the Amarok feedback on the position of the vehicle between the lane. Should the vehicle veer, the Amarok will automatically make small adjustments to the steering to centre the vehicle in its lane.

In combination with the adaptive cruise control, the Amarok will then take control of the forward and lateral movements of the vehicle. Note that this is not a fully autonomous system and the driver will always need to have their hands on the steering wheel and should always be monitoring the road ahead for hazards.

Park Assist Plus

The new Volkswagen Amarok is not a small vehicle, measuring 5 350mm in length. However, if the Park Assist Plus system is fitted, you do not have to worry about how you will park the Amarok. With this system, the Amarok will use all the available cameras, radar and sensors and take control of the steering, acceleration, braking and changing of gears and will manoeuvre the vehicle into an adequate parking space automatically. The system is capable of both parallel and perpendicular parking scenarios.
