The latest iteration of the Peugeot 308 was introduced locally during 2015 in two trim levels namely Active and GT Line. A separate GT derivative arrived in 2016 while the Allure derivative touched down in 2018. The Peugeot 308 model range is, however, no longer available as new but used Peugeot 308 models can be found in the used vehicles' marketplace.

We look at the top three Peugeot 308 trim levels in the model lineup and focus on the standard tech as well as some unique features of the second generation Peugeot 308 Allure, GT Line and GT variants to find out which one is our winner.

Engines

While the Allure and GT Line models offer the same engine configuration, the GT trim offers a completely different setup.

Safety

As standard drivers can expect ABS brakes installed on all three models. This is bolstered by Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist. Keeping the vehicle in check is both the Electronic Stability Programme and antislip regulation technology (ASR) the latter acting as traction control. Functionality such as ISOFIX and automatic activation of hazard lights under emergency braking also feature.

Occupants are kept safe by a total of six airbags, front and side units for both front occupants and curtain airbags for the rear passengers.  Front and rear parking sensors features across the range as well as hill-start assist. By this comparison, all three the trim levels appear to be equal in its safety specifications.

Comfort and tech

On the interior of the Allure, GT Line and GT variants customers can expect a half leather upholstery finish with textured surfaces and brightwork around the cabin. A bi-zone automatic climate control system, a refrigerated glovebox, electric mirrors as well as front and rear electric windows feature as standard equipment.

Featuring prominently in the facia is a 9.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The infotainment device play music over a 6-speaker audio system and offer USB and AUX input. Pre-installed navigation remains optional on all three trim levels.

Conclusion

In terms of safety and technology specification, all three trim levels seem to offer very similar experiences with the biggest difference happening under the bonnet. While the Allure and GT Line offerings provide similar performance figures, one could opt for the more powerful GT model which adds 55 kW and 55 Nm of torque.

Items such as the wheel design and sizes as well as a few trim pieces on the exterior and interior will differ but mostly add to the aesthetics of the vehicle. Thus, if we were browsing for used Peugeot 308 models, we would choose the GT Line as our winner.
