When one thinks of SUVs, one of the first cars that comes to mind is BMW's X5. BMW Marketing has even coined the term 'SAV', which stands for 'Sports Activity Vehicle', as a means to indicate the vehicle's handling capabilities in spite of its large dimensions. Here are our BMW X5 reviews for you to check out here.

A new X5 was released in 2023 with refined styling and some new powertrain options. Some styling additions include new slim yet angular Matrix LED headlights and an illuminated large kidney grille. Inside, there's the all-new BMW Curved Digital Display, which is a whopping 14.3 inches with interior trim flowing around the display. The cabin is still as plush as ever as you'd expect with an X5. Naturally, there would be some stiff competition in this part of the SUV segment, so with this in mind, which are the 5 best similar cars to the X5?

1. Jeep Grand Cherokee

Representing America proudly, the current Grand Cherokee has upped its ante and cemented itself as a compelling offering from the American brand. An all-new architecture, new exterior design and an interior that prides itself on its craftsmanship. The 3.6-litre V6 Pentastar engine powers the Grand Cherokee, sending 210kW and 344Nm via an 8-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. You also get Quadra-Lift Air suspension for a comfy and capable ride.

2. Land Rover Range Rover Velar

On the Land Rover side of the world, we have the Range Rover Velar offering some of the best that Range Rover offers. The Velar emphasises technology in its vehicle features. Pivi Pro infotainment receives an upgrade with an 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen. The Velar utilises Active Road Noise Cancellation with the Meridian sound system to create a cocoon of silence. You have the choice of ICE power or hybrid technology.

3. Porsche Cayenne

One of the German rivals, boasting a newly refined version of the Cayenne Recipe. The Cayenne is more expressive and significantly more athletic. Most notably, the front end and shoulder line are broader. Inside, front and centre, is a completely digital 12.6-inch instrument cluster and a 10.9-inch display for the passenger side. The passenger essentially has their own infotainment system. You have the choice of a V8 BiTurbo engine, a V6 turbo engine and a hybrid V6 turbo engine.

4. Ineos Grenadier

It's interesting how the Grenadier came to be. The Grenadier was the brainchild of a few friends who were having a chat at the pub about creating a 4x4 without the modern frills of SUVs nowadays, and little did they know, it became a huge reality. The Grenadier is a no-nonsense 4x4 vehicle and, interestingly, for the sake of this article, has a BMW engine. The similarity here between the X5 and Grenadier is the price point.

5. Mercedes-Benz GLE

Last but certainly not least, the Mercedes-Benz GLE  was also updated recently. Now, with hybrid technology and adjusted suspension, the GLE is more capable and efficient, too. To rival the X5M variants, there are also AMG GLE variants to strike up some competition between the vehicles.
