Automakers are on a Sub-Compact Crossover SUV offensive with new models making their way to showroom floors while other manufacturers introduce completely new versions of a popular nameplate. Hyundai followed the latter method but introducing a new Creta which seems to only share its name with the outgoing model.

The Creta moniker first appeared locally in 2017 while a facelifted model made its debut in 2018 and a Limited variant added to the range in 2019. Although the changes are distinctive between the three models introduced over the three years, the new model which arrived during 2020 completely sets itself apart in every aspect.
1. Exterior
While used Creta models retain a traditional approach to the headlamp and foglamp configurations, the new model incorporates a completely new design with the daytime running lights featuring above and separate from the headlamp cluster. Centrally sits a larger and bolder grille while lower down on the bumper, fog lamps are incorporated.
As with the grille, the new Creta is noticeably larger than the outgoing model and includes sharper and bolder lines. This can be seen in the almost square wheel arches which are filled by the new 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels on the Premium and Executive derivatives. The rear of the vehicle mirrors the design theme upfront with the larger light cluster situated below a small taillamp. The reverse lights are introduced lower down in the bumper.
2. Interior
It is not only the exterior that saw a complete redesign, but the interior also features a brand new design. The outgoing model features a more rounded approach and lighter tones incorporated to offset the darker trim. On the new model a stronger, more contemporary style emerges with more emphasis on the horizontal lines. The leather seats and leather-clad steering wheel is also finished in darker shades.
Contrasting the black leather interior environment in the flagship model are red accents on the seats, air vents and red stitching on the flat bottom, multifunction steering wheel. Grey and Black cloth are used on the Premium derivatives while Executive variants incorporate Black and Grey leather options.
Occupants also benefit from a new 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment system installed with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Executive models further benefit from a wireless charging pad for smartphones. A rearview camera also features as standard equipment.
3. Powertrains
The new Creta comes with three new engine options which take shape as a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel unit and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor. There is also a variety of transmission options ranging from a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox to the new 6-speed Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic or DCT.
The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre unit produces 85 kW and 144 Nm torque while the new 1.5-litre turbodiesel develops 85 kW and 250 Nm. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor which is found in the flagship model and coupled to the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic is capable of 103 kW and 242 Nm of torque.
