The Ford Transit, at least in Europe, needs no introduction. For a long time, the transit has been one of Europe's most popular vans and has made its way to the South African market.  Alongside the Tourneo, the Transit has been refreshed for 2024 in South Africa and here's what you can expect to find.

The Transit covers the commercial van duties, whilst the Tourneo covers the people mover duties. The latest versions pride themselves on increased comfort, particularly in the ride quality department, greater cabin space and some new technology.

Interior Exterior Styling

The Transit/Tourneo, in our eyes, shares a front fascia similar to the upcoming Territory and has a bit of road presence rather than just being a box on wheels. The paddle-shaped headlights linked via a light bar, hexagonal grille, and flared arches do make the Transit/Tourneo have more curb appeal. Six-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in high-profile rubber are a subtle touch to the contours of the wheel arches. The rear of the Transit is the standard van affair with a large barn door-style tailgate and vertical taillights whilst the Tourneo is a single tailgate.

Inside both cars, you'll find a 13-inch touchscreen Ford Sync 4 infotainment system in the short centre stack front and centre along with the gearstick and a myriad of storage pockets below. The steering wheel is a thick-rimmed, rounded-off square with a 12-inch instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The dashboard's shape theme is an elongated rectangle, and overall, there's plenty of horizontal space inside both vehicles. The Tourneo has eight seats to accommodate your passengers, ISOFIX child seat anchors in all 3 of the second-row seats, and tri-zone climate control to keep everyone cosy even when you set up the seats in a 6-person conference layout.

Performance

The Tourneo and Transit are powered by a 2.0-litre single turbo EcoBlue Diesel engine with AdBlue producing 100kW and 360Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission in the Tourneo and a 6-speed manual in the Transit. A braked trailer weighing 2500 kg can be towed with these vehicles.

More engines are set to come in the near future.

You'll find the following standard safety equipment in the Transit:

  • 6 Airbags
  • ABS, EBD

  • Driver Alert with impairment monitor
  • Evasive Steering Assist
