Steeped in history, the Toyota Land Cruiser nameplate is synonymous with tough, rugged models, available in diesel and petrol, that can handle anything Africa has to throw at it. Split into three categories, the 70 Series is the heavy-duty offering joined by the light-duty Prado and the full-size Land Cruiser, currently the 300 Series. The 70 Series has gone essentially unchanged for the last 40 years, sticking to the recipe that has become so popular.

The Land Cruiser 79 pick-up/bakkie, in single cab and double cab, is available with either a petrol or diesel engine, while the Land Cruiser 76 Station Wagon only offers a choice of two diesel engines. The less-common Land Cruiser 78 Station Wagon only offers a single diesel.
Land Cruiser 70 Series Engine Options
The Land Cruiser 70 Series was recently updated. With this update came new front-end styling, a revised dashboard, and the addition of a smaller, but more economical 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces similar power to the famed V8.
