1. It's petite, but the interior isn't cramped
If you passed your K53 driving test in a Chevrolet Spark or Hyundai Grand i10, driving the Ignis is going to be a pleasant surprise: You'll still have those easily manoeuvrable compact dimensions, but you'll be sitting a fair bit higher than you did in the driving school car. And if you're a student, you'll be happy to know that your taller friends will have enough legroom in the back. A 250-litre boot will fit two peoples' weekend luggage, and there are enough clever storage cubbies for takeaway coffees, phones, wallets, and other small items too. Drop the rear seats and the boot size increases to 469 litres.

2. It's safe and user-friendly
The ergonomic interior seems to be built with young drivers in mind, and it's not just because of its bright and youthful design. Everything important is within easy reach. If you're keen on keeping connected, we recommend a GLX model, as the entry-level GL models have to do without steering wheel buttons and a smartphone-mirroring touchscreen. At least the GL models have a radio/MP3/CD player, trip computer, Bluetooth, AUX/USB/12V power sockets, remote central locking, aircon, electrically adjustable side mirrors, and electric windows in the front and rear.
Keeping the Ignis's interior clean and in tip-top shape isn't too difficult either. The seat material seems hardy and if you want to keep the pale plastic parts grime-free, a soapy damp cloth should sort it out quickly and easily.
On the safety front, all models in the Ignis range are equipped with ABS, EBD, brake assist, two airbags, a high-level brake light, side-impact protection beams, an alarm and an immobiliser. GLX models have daytime running lamps and rear parking sensors as well. (If only it had some traction control too.)

3. Its engine is small but nippy, and fuel-efficient too!
The ultra-light Ignis weighs in at a mere 850 kilograms, which greatly aids the 1.2-litre, rev-happy engine's pulling power. Nope, no turbo here, which means you won't have to worry about the turbos giving up the ghost later and expensive maintenance costs when the Ignis gets a bit long in the tooth and is perhaps passed down to a younger sibling.
The 1.2-litre engine is capable of churning out 61kW (with 113Nm), and while it's no firecracker, I can assure you now that you will want to stir the slick five-speed gearbox just for the sheer fun of it. Even if you drive the Ignis hard, your fuel consumption won't easily go over the 5.5 -5 .7-litre mark.

Verdict
Both younger and older drivers will appreciate the practicality and personality of the vibrant little Ignis. Suzuki is known for keeping their customers satisfied, and the Ignis's 3-year / 100 000 km warranty with a 2-year / 30 000 km service plan is not to be sneezed at, either. If you have your heart set on this characterful little Suzuki, you won't be sorry.
Suzuki recently introduced special edition models (shown here in GLX form) which will add stylish urban elements like a rear spoiler, side decals, and door visors. A variety of exterior colours are available too.
