Is the Ford Figo expensive to maintain?

The Ford Figo is a nice entry-level hatchback, but is it expensive to maintain? We will list the estimated service and maintenance costs against some of its competitors.

Buying a Car

The last generation Ford Figo is a lovely little value proposition from the blue oval. Available in both sedan and hatch, frugal petrol and diesel derivatives and even specced up with Ford's SYNC multimedia and improved safety, the last-generation Figo isn't a bad car to consider.

As standard, all last generation Ford Figos were sold with a 4-year / 120 000km comprehensive warranty, 2-year / 40 000km service plan, 3-year / Unlimited km roadside assistance and 5-year / Unlimited km corrosion warranty. That's a whole load of plans to have. Now, what do you do when the warranty and service plan expires and you need to sort out the servicing and maintenance of the vehicle from your purse? That will all be answered here as we look at the estimated cost of service and maintenance of a Ford Figo against its competitors.

Service

Servicing a vehicle regularly and in a timely manner helps the vehicle's longevity, performance, safety and fuel economy. This includes consumables like engine oil, spark plugs, filters etc which will keep the vehicle in tip-top condition. For the purposes of this article, we will use the 2020 AA Kinsey Report as that's the most recent report we can use to get pricing. Bear in mind that pricing may have changed hence this will be used as an estimation of sorts. The costs here do not include labour and it's solely for parts.

Maintenance

Vehicle maintenance involves wear and tear items that have a service life longer than the consumables used in a service. These can include components not entirely related to the engine but suspension and braking components. As is the case with the Service section of this article, pricing has been sourced from the 2020 AA Kinsey Report, so bear in mind that pricing may have changed since that time without notice and this does not include labour costs. Use this as an estimation guideline.

Verdict

Comparing the Ford Figo to its price point competitors, it came out as the most affordable to service and maintain. The most expensive being the Kia Picanto and the Volkswagen Polo Vivo following second. With that in mind, it's not really expensive to service and maintain the last-generation Ford Figo.
