Is Jaguar good for families?

Traditionally associated with sports cars and luxury saloons, the shift to SUVs for the Jaguar brand has been a wise one in recent times. Join us as we explore the local model range to determine whether they are good for families or not.

Buying a Car

Those shopping for a family-friendly vehicle are entering a market packed to the brim with tempting propositions from some of the most well-established brands on earth. There are many factors at play when you are looking for a family car, including safety, practicality, performance, efficiency, and aftersales service.

In this article, we will be examining Jaguar’s local model range to determine if they will make for good family vehicles.

Jaguar E-Pace

The E-Pace might be the smallest Jaguar SUV at this point, but it is still a practical product, offering 577-litres of boot space which extends to 1 234-litres with the rear seat folded flat. A 5-Star safety rating from Euro NCAP in 2017 is noteworthy. The E-Pace range is powered by 2.0-litres engines, some of which are turbodiesel, some turbocharged petrol and other turbo petrol hybrids.

Jaguar XF

The XF is the last sedan the Jaguar sell in the local market at this stage. Its 505-litre boot, capacious rear quarters and premium interior make a fantastic medium-sized saloon car package. The XF fared well in the Euro NCAP crash test in 2015, scoring a 5-Star rating overall. The XF range is powered by a range of 2.0-litre turbodiesel and petrol engines with various outputs, depending on the model selected.

Jaguar F-Pace

Jaguar's F-Pace has been a smash hit for the brand, with its impressive aluminium architecture and strong dynamics proving that there is life after saloon cars for the British brand. The F-Pace is practical too, with space for five occupants, rear ISOFIX child seat anchor points and 650-litres of boot space. The F-Pace models are available with 2.0-litre turbodiesel and petrol engines, the latter with a hybrid system too, as well as a monstrous 5.0-litre supercharged V8 all of which are all paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Euro NCAP crash tested the car and gave it a 5-Star rating overall back in 2017.

Jaguar I-Pace

The I-Pace has the biggest boot in the Jaguar range, with 656-litres of space and seating for five occupants. The EuroNCAP new car assessment programme tested the I-Pace in 2018 where it achieved a 5-star safety rating. The I-Paces is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle which are fed by a 90kW h lithium-ion battery

Jaguar F-Type

The F-Type is the least family-friendly Jaguar in the range, only offering seating for two occupants while also providing the least luggage space, at 336-509-litres, depending on the configuration.

Warranty & Service

All Jaguar models are sold with a standard 5-year or 100 000km maintenance plan. The all-electric I-Pace has an additional 8-year/160 000km warranty on its battery too.

Verdict

Aside from its F-Type sports car, the entire local Jaguar line-up is very well suited to families, offering safety, practicality, efficiency, and comfort befitting of a premium brand.
