Chevy Optimal

Chevrolet officially withdrew from South Africa in 2017 leaving many consumers wondering if the Chevy they had bought would be supported maintenance and warranty wise.

Chevrolet confirmed that they would continue to support the vehicles for up to 10 years after they left. The withdrawal did lead to prices for their vehicles tumbling, and you will now find many of these cars for sale at very good prices. You may be wondering if you buy one, which one would be best for your family.

City Hatch

Chevrolet had a number of small city hatchbacks that were best suited to young city dwellers and students. The Spark, Sonic, and Aveo's space came at a premium, and as such these were not really suitable for families.

Mid-Size

Whether sedan or hatch, Chevy's Cruze and Optra were good mid-size vehicles that offered a good driving experience but were rather bland as vehicles. If you can find these for sale, you can get a good car that isn't really exceptional but will suit a small family rather well.

Sports

Chevrolet has been well known globally for making big sports cars powered by V8 engines that power the rear wheels. Locally the Lumina garnered much respect from enthusiasts but didn't rack up any sales. They were very heavy on fuel and rear tyres but were big on space. You can comfortably fit a family of fount into a Lumina, but the costs associated simply do not compute.

Bakkie

Chevrolet also released the UTE in small numbers in SA, and they are an even rarer sight on our roads and are definitely not suited for family life. We cannot forget the very popular half-ton Utility that was borrowed from the Corsa bakkie but once again not truly meant for families.

SUV

Chevrolet's bestseller locally would have to be their range of SUVs  The  Orlando, Captiva, and Trailblazer sold in large numbers likely due to them suiting families. Space, capability, and efficient engines mean that the Chevy SUVs are the best for families but as we know from before are no longer available as new and can now only be found on the second-hand market.
