This rapid ascent highlights a clear shift in consumer preference. With its crossover styling and competitive price point (starting from R339,300), the Starlet Cross resonates strongly with South African drivers who seek value and practicality above all else.

Outselling its hatchback sibling

Interestingly, the Starlet Cross has carved its niche and outsold its hatchback sibling, the Starlet hatch. The hatchback dropped out of the top 10 passenger vehicles in August, while the Starlet Cross secured a coveted fifth place. This consumer behaviour illustrates a growing demand for crossovers and SUVs, particularly affordable ones.
