We entered R178 900 and opted for no deposit, no residual, and a 72-month repayment period, with an anticipated interest rate of 13.75%. This translates to a monthly instalment of R 3 662, with a total interest amount of R84 797. That brings up the total amount to a whopping R263 697.

Put down a deposit if you can, to pay less interest.
If you've got a bit of money saved to put a deposit down, it will make a big difference to the amount of interest you'll be paying. We would also recommend reducing your repayment period.
To illustrate this, we did the same calculation but this time we added R 50 000 for a deposit (or trade-in value) and reduced the payment period from 72 months to 60 months. This brings your monthly instalment down to R 2 983 and your total interest is now only R 50 056. Still plenty, but better!

Before you commit yourself to buy a car, remember to investigate what it all entails first. Your expenses for your new car doesn't stop with your monthly car repayment; you still need to factor in fuel costs, insurance, and servicing costs, once your service/and or maintenance plan comes to an end.
