Touareg diesel performance
The Touareg is Volkswagen's answer to the big luxury SUVs that dominate the pointy end of the premium SUV segment. Volkswagen has updated the Touareg for 2024, refreshing it with new tech and features that put it on par with its competitors.

This invigorated Touareg may have a new face and a slimmer, more toned interior, but what's under the bonnet? Has VW changed anything that would affect the vehicle's performance? The answer is yes and no. The engine still delivers the same power figures, but it is much more refined, and fuel economy has gotten even better since the last time we tested one.
Performance figures
Under the bonnet of the Touareg is a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine that produces 190kW and 600Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic gearbox. Despite its 2.7-ton weight, the Touareg will sprint 0-100km/h in a spritely 6.5 seconds and go onto a limited top speed of 228 km/h.
The Touareg may be quick, but it can also be frugal, returning claimed figures of 7.8 L/100km, meaning you can get well over 1 000km on a diesel tank.
The updated Touareg is a phenomenal luxury SUV, offering comfort, tech, space, and incredible range from its exceptional drivetrain. That said, the BMW X5 and Audi A7 are arguably more desirable, as they are good to drive and cost nearly the same. Still, those who take the plunge and opt for the big VW won't be disappointed. - Sean Nurse
