Going on a BMW 3 Series test drive? Make sure to check these features out.

Packages

When you get into the BMW 3 Series model that you’re going to test drive, don't just get in and drive off. Take some time to inspect the car and see what trim level/package the car is specced with.

If it’s an M Sport model then you know you’re getting adaptive suspensions and the max speed of the car is raised. If it has the Luxury Line package then you will find active blind-spot detection, heated rear seats and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Why is the package important?

Are there any features the test car doesn't have that you were looking for?

Can that feature then be added as an extra?

Does it have fog lights?

Technology

In comparison to cars in the segment and for its price range, the BMW 3 Series is nicely packed with technology as standard. Check out BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, do you like how it operates? Do you find it user-friendly?

You might want to check for navigation as not all of them are equipped. If you are not sure where to find it, although it does have its own button, then ask the salesman to show you.

Additionally, is this test model equipped with parking cameras and manoeuvre assistance? Check whether it features active cruise control and a speed limiter.

Power Window Regulators

The window regulator is powered by a small electric motor and operated through the window switch on the door panel.

Why check this?

While power windows are a standard feature on a BMW 3 Series, on the E46 3 Series it is known to be a common failure item. If it has been replaced find out if the window regulators were replaced in conjunction with the electric window motor as this prevents repeated repairs. If the regulator has failed the window will be stuck.
