Is the Renault Kiger a good car?

Considering the standard equipment, price and overall performance, the Kiger will meet most requirements from those looking for a crossover vehicle. However, the lack of refinement, poor tangible quality will become evident as more time is spent with the vehicle.

Who is the Renault Kiger a good car for?

The Renault Kiger is a good car for customers wanting the practicality and usability of a hatchback but with added ground clearance and rugged styling in an affordable price range.

Is the Renault Kiger a good first car?

The compact dimensions and affordable price certainly makes it an attractive option to first-time car buyers. Customers should note that the base model or Life derivative only retain two airbags and omit the stability control system available on the pricier trim levels.

Is the Renault Kiger a good family car?

Both front and rear occupants are treated to ample leg- and head-room which makes it good for small to medium-sized families. Even with the compact design, Renault still managed to incorporate 405-litres of luggage space at the rear.

Is there a Hybrid Renault Kiger?

At the time of writing the article, the Renault Kiger is only offered with either a 1.0-litre, naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder petrol motor capable of 52 kW and 96 Nm of torque or a 1.0-litre, turbocharged, 3-cylinder petrol engine generating 74 kW and 160 Nm. No hybrids feature in the range as of yet.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

Powering the Kiger Turbo is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 74kW and 160Nm of torque, which is certainly sufficient for most tasks, the problem comes with the clutch action in the manual model, which proved frustrating to modulate, resulting in either a bogged-down pull-off or an overly aggressive launch.

Interior

What is the Renault Kiger like inside?

Front and rear occupants benefit from ample leg- and head-room as well as a large 405-litre boot. As you would expect from a vehicle at this price point, the interior trim features a lot of plastic, however, even with the entry-level trim, Renault has incorporated gloss black trim pieces in the door trim and steering wheel to add more style. As for the upholstery, customers opting for the Life derivative can expect Muted Melange fabric while the top trim incorporates quilted embossed fabric seats.

Style

As a whole, the Renault Kiger is quite stylish as it has a muscular sculpted exterior. The higher stance which is complemented by the more rugged exterior trim truly sets it apart from the competition. The interior while simple in design looks modern and should the customer opt for a higher trim grade, is bolstered by features such as a digital instrument cluster and 8.0-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that not only bolster its functionality but the interior style and feel.
