One of the biggest determining factors for buying a specific vehicle is whether it falls within your budget. Secondly, you would want to inspect and test drive the vehicle to make sure it meets your specific requirements which is difficult if a vehicle is not located in your province. Luckily you can easily search for vehicles within a specific price range as well as the location on AutoTrader.
To find out just what vehicles you can expect within an R150 000 budget in Gauteng, we went on a search of our own and tried to find examples in most of the vehicle segments for your consideration.
Hatch
While conducting our search, we selected to see vehicles that are classified as 2021 year models. Quite a few choices came up with familiar as well as new contenders in the hatchback segment. One of the most advertised models you will find within this price bracket is the Renault Kwid, however, you will also find quite a few Toyota Agya, Volkswagen Polo Vivo and Suzuki S-Presso models available.
If you are willing to purchase an older vehicle with higher mileage, you can expect vehicles such as the KIA Picanto, Renault Sandero and Suzuki Swift to feature.
Sedan
Sedans are inherently more expensive than hatchback models as in most instances they offer more cabin room as well as a larger boot. Once again if your aim is to find the newest models possible with the fewest kilometres on the odometer, you will find that the R150 000 or less budget will get vehicles such as the 2019 model year Toyota Etios sedan, KIA Rio sedan and the Nissan Almera.
If you don't mind purchasing something a little older but with a more premium nameplate, you can expect 2013 year models from the likes of Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Alfa Romeo to feature within the R150 000 budget cap.
Crossover
Crossover models combine the compact design of hatchback models with a slightly raised ride height and in some cases a larger boot and cabin. It is for these reasons and more that this segment is very popular with a majority of automakers offering crossovers. While an R150 000 budget does not bring along much choice when you are trying to find a relatively new model with low mileage, those in the market can expect 2019 year models of the Mahindra KUV100, Fiat Panda and Haval H1 to become available.
If you search for models registered in 2017, vehicles such as the Ford EcoSport, Fiat 500L and Renault Captur will start to feature amongst the options.
SUV
SUVs are amongst the most popular body types on sale today. Not only does it come with large and usually well-specified interiors, but it also offers considerable boot space too. Because of this, SUVs tend to keep their value quite well which means that if you are looking for the tall ground clearance and practicality within the set budget, your options start with the 2015 Hyundai iX35, GWM H6 and Nissan X-Trail.
If you don't mind opting for something a little older, you can get a 2013 year model Mahindra XUV500, Ford Kuga or Mitsubishi Outlander within the budget cap.
Double-cab
The newest double-cab bakkie we could find within budget and at the time of writing this article was a 2018 GWM Steed 5. GWM products will be a trend if you are looking for a double-cab under R150 000, that is unless you don't mind opting for a slightly older vehicle.
If you don't mind purchasing a vehicle registered between 2014 and 2015, you can find Nissan Navara, Tata Xenon and Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up models.
