We find a variety of vehicles that has a big enough boot for your four-legged companions.

Buying a Car

Although having pets is a big responsibility, they also bring us joy and laughter. One of the main reasons families aren't always able to take along their dogs on a family adventure is the space in their vehicles. While smaller lapdogs are easily transported, larger breeds present more of a challenge. Luckily some manufacturers offer larger vehicles with more space to allow your pawed friends to join in on the fun.

Below we list a variety of vehicles that will offer a good amount of space for those larger dogs at the rear. The range we have chosen incorporates more affordable options all the way up to the premium segment.

JMC Landwind 5

The most affordable option on this list of vehicles is the JMC Landwind 5. The model landed in South Africa in 2016 to provide a more attainable option for SUV buyers. The JMC Landwind 5 is offered in three derivatives, all of which will provide an impressive 855-litres of boot space, ample for a large breed dog or even two medium-sized canines.

Mahindra XUV500

The Mahindra XUV500 first arrived on the scene locally in 2015, however, the automaker has introduced an updated model during 2018. This model comes in four derivatives, however, owners can expect 720-litres of boot space for all of the variants. This amount of space once again will be ample for a large dog or even two.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace

With the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, we are moving more into premium segments of the SUV market. Like with the Mahindra, the current generation Tiguan Allspace was introduced in 2018. With five out of the seven seats available in use, owners will get 700-litres of boot space with the third row folded flat.

Hyundai Santa Fe

While with all seven seats in the Hyundai Santa Fe occupied, your four-legged friend will only get 332-litres of boot space, if only five of the seven seats are in use, the owner can fold the third row flat to get around 1032-litres. With that much space, you could quite easily transport two Great Dane dogs with enough space to fit a third small dog too.

Land Rover Defender 110

The Land Rover Defender is available with either five or seven seats. In the seven-seat specification, the model offer 160-litres of space with all the seats occupied, however, with the third row folded flat customers can expect around 743-litres to become available. The five-seat derivatives provide for 857-litres of boot space as standard, which could possibly fit up to three large dogs.
