The Proton X50 is the latest entrant into the premium mid-size crossover segment that has become rather busy as of late. Packed with much of the same tech that you will find in many of its competitors, the Proton X50 is well-equipped to handle the needs of many families.

It is no secret that South Africans love to travel and explore and many motorists in SA like to take just about anything and everything with them, from trailers to caravans and everything else between, having a capable tow vehicle is often a prerequisite when buying their next vehicle. At first glance, the Proton does not appear to have a towing feature as there is no visible tow bar or provision for such an arrangement.

The Hookup

We spoke with the good folk over at Proton to confirm and although there is not a towing feature fitted from the factory, the dealership will happily have one fitted for you as there are wiring harnesses in situ for that purpose. Proton confirmed that the X50 not only has provision for a tow hitch but a braked towing capacity of 1 500kg, making it entirely usable for families on extended trips that need a trailer or the like.
